James Edward Miller was born September 28, 1937 in Kenedy, Texas. He was preceded in death by his mother, Vivian Fant, father, John Henry Miller, and brother, Leslie Springs. He attended elementary school in Kenedy and old Wheatley High School in San Antonio where he was an outstanding member of the football team recognized in the Express News.
