Obituary for Thelma Lonell McKinney

Thelma Lonell Hardin-McKinney was born in Austin, Texas on January 20,1924. She was born to her parents MyrahAnn Tyson and Willie G. Hardin and was the second eldest of three children. Thelma better known by her loved ones as “Cool Momma”, accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age at Grandview Baptist Church.

Thelma was an educated woman, who gained much of her knowledge and skills through a focused process of self-study and life experience. Also, known to many as “Momma Thelma” she devoted much of her time and energy to helping others with a focus on the homeless population.

Her priceless smile always won the hearts of everyone that she encountered, she always ushered a word of encouragement and wisdom always exemplifying a true Titus woman. She would often say her favorite quotes, “Take everything to the Lord in prayer” and “Give thanks in everything, it is the Lords will.” Thelma joined Lilly of the Valley Missionary Baptist Church and actively participated Choir singing soprano, Feed the Hungry Ministry, Senior Citizen Ministry, Homeless Ministry, Nursing Home Ministries, until her health began to decline.

Thelma enjoyed and loved cooking and baking, sewing, yardwork/gardening, going to the senior center, reading the bible and working crossword puzzles. Thelma loved the sport of basketball and was an avid fan of the San Antonio SPURS. When the Spurs were playing, Thelma always made sure that all distraction were limited.

On Wednesday August 20 ,2018 at the Sundance Senior Living Facility the Lord called Thelma to her Heavenly Home. She is preceded in death by her father Willie G Hardin, mother MyrahAnn Tyson, brother Warren G. Hardin Jr., sister Jewel Mae Phillips and son Ollie Daniel McKinney Jr.
