Obituary for Bertrand Batiste

Bertrand Howard “Randy” Batiste entered eternal rest on July 17 at his Dallas home. He will be remembered for his fierce independence, kind heart, and warm smile. Batiste was a graduate of Randolph High School, UT-Austin and the University of North Texas. He was Assistant Director of Student AccessAbility at UT-Dallas, and a highly respected educator, counselor, and innovator. Batiste was admired for his courage and quiet strength. He championed efforts to improve campus accessibility for people with disabilities, and he was active in wheelchair sports, serving as a coach, teammate and organizer of athletic teams inthe Dallas area. “He was such a gentle spirit. He never complained about his disability,”said a co-worker. He was preceded in death by his father Lieutenant Colonel Harold Batiste, Jr. (USAF), and is remembered by his loving mother Gertrude Batiste, brother Dr. Harold Batiste III (Scott Honeychurch) of Houston, and sister Dr. Amy Batiste (Michael Woodwick) of Minneapolis. Visitation is scheduled on Saturday, July 28 at 10:00 a.m. at Windcrest United MethodistChurch (8101 Midcrown Drive, Windcrest, TX), followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 a.m. Donations can be made to the University of Texas-Dallas, Office of Student AccessAbility, .
