Obituary for Shirley M. Reed

Shirley was born to the late Louis E. Critney, Sr. and Modest E. Cole Critney in Plaquemine, LA.

She departed this life on July 23, 2017 at 3:43 pm at Vitas Healthcare in San Antonio, TX.

Shirley was baptized September 1949 at Nazarene Baptist Church in Morrisonville, LA by the late Rev E.D. Dorsey, In 1968 she moved her membership to Second Baptist Church under the pastoral of the late Rev S.H. James.

She was married to TSgt Paul A. Reed, Sr for 54 years and to this union 7 children were born. Shirley was a mother who loved her family and would do whatever had to be done and never complained. She was a woman who never met a stranger and will always be remembered for her friendly Spirit.

She leaves to cherish her memory, a devoted husband Paul A. Reed Sr., two sons Michael R. Reed, Arnold Reed (Elizabeth) of Cibolo, TX, three daughters Valerie Diana Powell (Atlock) of Panama City, FL, Connie Reed of Cibolo, TX and Sharlene R. Wright (Darnell) of San Antonio, TX and a step daughter Paula E. Smith of San Antonio, TX.

She also leaves behind a sister Rosa Lee Dickerson (Oliver) of San Antonio, TX, two brothers Howard Critney (Joyce) of Port Allen, LA and Robert Critney, Sr. (Brenda) of Baton Rouge, LA, two sisters-in-law Keiko Critney of San Antonio, TX and Earline Luke of Addis, LA., with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her two sons, Melvion Reed and Paul A. Reed Jr., her parents, Louis E. Critney, Sr. and Modest E. Cole Critney, three brothers, Louis E. Critney Jr., Harold Critney, and Lawrence Leroy (Charlie) Luke.
