Obituary for Nancy L. Martin

Nancy Lorraine Galloway Martin was born on Sunday, July 5, 1964, in Neubrke/Nahe, Germany to Mr. Donald B. and Mrs. Blondell D. Galloway. Nancy was called to Glory on Monday, July 31, 2017.

Coming from a military family she lived in many different states until her family retired in San Antonio, Texas. She attended Bella Cameron Elementary School and St. Patrick Parochial School. Nancy graduated from Incarnate Word High School and attended San Antonio Community College. In high school she ran track and was involved in various community service activities. She was a Dorothy Keck Dancer for over 10 years. She was in gymnastics. As a member of Phi Delta Kappa Xinos, she competed in several oratorical competitions. Nancy made history by becoming the 1st Black Prom Queen at Incarnate Word High School.

At a young age, she accepted Christ and joined Second Baptist Church. She had a great love for working with the Youth. She participated in the Junior Choir and the Choral Readers. Later in life, she became a member of Silver and Gold, a praise team for the church. She worked with the Junior Usher Board at the Eight A.M. Worship Service and provided activities for the children during Thanksgiving in the Park.

Nancy worked for Gunn Automotive Group for thirty-six years. She began as a receptionist and worked in various positions. Her last position was at the Corporate Office. She loved working at the Corporate Office and she also enjoyed her relationship with her co-workers. She never met a stranger and greeted everyone with a smile.

Although we have lost a mother, a daughter, a sister, a friend, an encourager and a trusted confidante, we have gained from her passing the knowledge that Jesus is our ever-present help and the true source of all things. From her we have gained the blessed assurance that our ancestors who have gone before us are no longer a part of our past, but a part of our eternal and everlasting future.

Nancy is survived by her son, Malik S. Brooks; two step-children, Madu X and Aisha X; her parents, Mr. Donald B. and Blondell D. Galloway; sister, Vera Galloway; nephew, Fletcher McNeal III; three uncles, Samuel Sr., (Esther) Dove, Philadelphia PA., Lewis Dove, Sr., Gadsden SC., Cecil Sr., (Mary) Dove, South Carolina; five aunts, Martha Dove, Barbara Dove and Lillian Dove all from South Carolina, Betty Jones, San Antonio TX. and Barbara (Curtis) Gravitt, California; Goddaughter, Shannon Armstrong, a host of other dear relatives and friends.
