Obituary for Ernestine Wells Johnson

Ernestine Wells Johnson was born on August 10, 1925 to Helen Beatrice and John Wells.

Ernestine graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School in 1943. Her class was the first to complete the 12th grade. The class also wrote the school song. She met and married the love of her life, Willie N. Johnson on July 21, 1947. To this union they were blessed with four beautiful children, Michael, Arlene, Ronald and Donald. Ernestine was involved in several auxiliaries and groups. She was honored by the City Wide Ushers Union, she was elected Mother of the Year for the Mothers Circle in 2006. Ernestine was one of the charter ushers for the Leslie Foster Community Echoes for 25 years and served as Chaplain. St. Luke Baptist Church honored Ernestine last year as the eldest usher. She loved being a doorkeeper. Ernestine traveled for 29 years with her husband Rev. Willie N. Johnson to Luling, Texas then pastor of Friendship Baptist Church. She served as president of the Usher Board for several years. Ernestine loved spending time with her family. She was very supportive in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren's activities. She loved going shopping with her daughter Arlene, granddaughter Angie and great granddaughter Teasha. She will be greatly missed by all her loved ones and friends. Our mother was a strong and loving person.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Willie N. Johnson, (mother) Helen Manual and (step-father) Archie, (father) John Wells and (granddaughter) Angela L. Wilson-Warsame. Ernestine leaves to cherish her life long memories, her loving family, Michael Johnson, Arlene (Emmett) Lockett, Ronald (Lena) Johnson, Donald Johnson; (grandchildren) Shavon, Michelle, Deidre (Steward), Adrienne (Victor), Rhonda (Jason), Ronald (Stephanie), Mohammed Warsame, (great grandchildren) LaTeasha, Mark, Jalen, Dominique, Taylor, Tyler and Ronald; (great granddaughter) Kayden, (siblings) Ken (Felicia), Nathan and Jackie, (nieces) Yvonne (Larry), Patricia, Yvette (Fred), Marjorie and Henry.
Her special cousins, Mary and Barbara and a host of Relatives, Church Family and Friends.
