Obituary for Darnell Horace Mason, Sr.

Darnell Mason, Sr., 61, a resident of San Antonio, Texas, peacefully made his transition into the bosom of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 23, 2018, surrounded by the love of his family.
Darnell was the fifth son of Hubert and Martha Mason, born on September 28, 1956, in Evanston, Illinois. He attended Zion Benton High School and the University of Wisconsin, Parkside. He married Gayla Kyles on August 5, 1989 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Darnell was the president of the Kenosha, WI branch of the NAACP, led in the Kenosha Downtown Restoration Project, was owner and director of the Kenosha Trade Center, and volunteered with several community-building organizations before leaving Wisconsin. In 1993 he and his beautiful family relocated to San Antonio, where he started his own businesses with wife, Gayla, as a real estate developer, investor, and properties manager, as well as initiating ideas for the extension project of the city's Riverwalk area.
He is survived by his wife, Gayla; his mother, Martha Iglehart Mason; his four children, Scott (Marcella) Brehm, Atria (Doniva) Davis, Crystal Mason, Darnell Mason, Jr; stepson, Kenneth Kyles; four grandchildren, Atira, Skyler, Davonte, Isadora; five brothers, Hubert Mason, Herbert Mason, Henry (Kelly) Mason, Chris Mason, Harlan Mason; two sisters, Pamela (Robert) Shadell, Yvonne Mason; his aunt, Willie Iglehart; and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Hubert Mason, Sr.; brother, Halquin Mason; nephews, Mark Mason and Jeremy Mason.
Visitation will be on March 10, 2018 at Magnolia Christian Church in San Antonio, at 10:00 am followed by his Homegoing service at 11:00 am. His cousin, Bishop Langston Williams, will be officiating. Darnell will be laid to rest at the Sunset Memorial Park.
